How to vote

Voting day is Saturday, October 17, 2026. Voting places are open 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Chilliwack elects one mayor and six councillors. You can vote for up to six council candidates — you don't have to use all six.

You can vote at any voting place in Chilliwack. There are no assigned polling stations, and you don't need to register in advance — the City uses same-day voter registration and does not mail out voter cards.

This page is a summary, not the official source. The City of Chilliwack Elections Office runs the election and its information is the one that counts. If anything here differs from the City, the City is right.

Where to vote on October 17

Open 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Vote at whichever of these five is easiest for you.

Can I vote?

As a Chilliwack resident, you can vote if you:

  • are 18 or older on general voting day, or when you register to vote

  • are a Canadian citizen

  • have lived in British Columbia for at least six months immediately before you register

  • are a resident of Chilliwack on the day you register to vote

  • are not disqualified from voting under the Local Government Act or any other law

There is no minimum length of time you must have lived in Chilliwack. If you moved here last month, you can still vote.

As a non-resident property owner, you can vote if you meet the first three points above, and you:

  • have been the registered owner of property in Chilliwack for at least 30 days immediately before you register

  • are not disqualified from voting under the Local Government Act or any other law

Only one non-resident property elector may vote per property. Where a property has more than one owner, a majority of the owners must designate that one owner in writing. You cannot vote on behalf of a corporation, or on the basis of a property owned wholly or partly by a corporation.

What to bring

Bring two pieces of identification that together show who you are and where you live. At least one must include your signature.

The City accepts: BC Services Card · BC Driver's Licence · BC Identification Card (ICBC) · BC Care Card · Canadian Citizenship Card · valid passport · birth certificate · Social Insurance Card · Secure Certificate of Indian Status · credit or debit card · utility bill (phone, hydro, gas) · City of Chilliwack property tax notice · ICBC vehicle insurance documents.

Non-resident property electors also need the address or legal description and the title certificate (or other proof of ownership) for the property, plus written consent from the other owners where that applies.

Mail ballots and accessible voting

Mail ballots. Request a mail ballot package from the City through its online request process, between September 1, 2026 and 4:00 pm on October 14, 2026. Packages are available from the week of September 28, 2026. Your completed ballot must be received by the City by 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 17 — received, not postmarked. Curbside voting. If you are unable to enter the voting place, you may ask to receive and mark your ballot at a place located outside the voting place.
