Meet Kevin
I moved to Chilliwack 21 years ago when I married my wife, who has lived here her whole life. We’ve lived in five different neighbourhoods since, raised our family here, and never thought about leaving.
I’m a finance manager. Right now I look after accounting and finance at Denbow Transport, a local company in soil, agriculture and landscape supply. Before that I spent nine and a half years at Westbow, ending up running the finances for their dairy and farming operations. I’ve managed a construction project through to completion. And I served as Director of Operations at Ruth and Naomi’s, running the business side of a local non-profit working with people who are in need of help.
I have governance experience from sitting on the board of MCC-BC. I’ve served on the leadership team at my church and coached kids’ basketball and soccer. Giving back is in my nature.
I’m also an ultra runner. This year I finished the Buck Me This Goat is Knackered challenge — three mountain ultras in three consecutive weekends. In the last one I fell and broke my teeth at the 17 km mark. I still finished by running the next 36 km. I mention it because it’s the shortest way to explain how I work. I finish what I start.
Why I’m running
Municipal work is practical — roads, sewers, infrastructure, where the next subdivision goes. This council has been able to disagree at the table and still get things done. That culture matters, and with the turnover coming this year, it’s about to be tested.
I think I can help hold that together and add to it. That’s why I’m running.
I’m a finance guy. I read the documents, and when something doesn’t add up, I say so. Then I stay at the table and we work it out together.
And I love contributing to my community.
